did she get a haircut

does it make anyone else uncomfortable that they changed her entire race because she went out with Ron in their sixth year
isn’t that what happened???
they changed a character’s entire race because she as a character became important and relevant for a short amount of time

Wow.

Umm, no. They did not change her entire race simply because she dated Ron. Actually think about it. Up until the sixth book, she was a background character that was only ever mentioned in passing, so she wasn’t given a physical description. Then in the sixth book, Lavender was finally described, as having ‘pale skin and dirty blonde hair’. Well, the first few Harry Potter movies came out before the Half-Blood Prince book did, so the casting directors did what they wanted with the character.
Another thing, the Lavender Brown from the first few movies only appeared in the first few movies. Lavender didn’t even appear in the 4th and 5th movies, because again, she was a background character, and wasn’t vital to the story. The only reason her race was changed was because a physical description was finally in the books, and it didn’t fit what the directors had, so they had to recast her. It was not because she dated Ron.

Somebody spread this shit because I refuse to have this turn into some social justice bullshit

Oh my fucking god, the producers and directors never gave a flying fuck about the physical description of HARRY or HERMIONE but god forbid they have a black actress continue playing Lavender. Go fuck yourself for excusing their racism.

interesting that you choose to call the social commentary “bullshit”, when in fact it’s your description that’s full of it. there is not a single mention of lavender’s skin color in hbp. unless you’d like to provide a page number for where your “pale skin and dirty blonde hair” comes from, i’ll just go with the explanation that you don’t want to see a black actress playing a romantic role.
(p.s—plus, the argument that they would recast a minor character’s role in the middle of the movies solely because they got a new hair color is bullshit. neville was described as blonde in the very first book, and they clearly didn’t care. so yeah, there’s absolutely no reason for this recasting.)

While I want to stay in the middle of this discussion, did you guys ever think about that the person who originally played Lavender didn’t have the acting skills that the director thought was appropriate or that she just had other things to do. I know the second one is probably not the case, but y’all need to stop jumping to easy conclusions.

A super girly and peppy blonde girl who wears bright pink dresses and skirts everyday is best friends with a quiet goth girl who of course sports all black clothing and big lace up boots. Someone jokes and yells to them “Hey look, a fairy and a vampire!” The blonde turns around and flashes a fanged grin and says “She’s human, actually.”
